NEED INFORMATION ON WELLNESS PROGRAMS

Postby NevadaBabe » Tue Aug 18, 2009 8:57 pm

Does your employer have a wellness program? Have you been forced to participate or is it voluntary? Is weight loss one of the markers of success in their program? What is your opinion of the program?

NAAFA is currently working with a newspaper reporter on an article about wellness programs. If you are part of one or your company has or is introducing one and you are willing to talk with a reporter about your company's plan and your experiences/opinions (good or bad) we'd love to hear from you. Please send me a short blurb about your employer, what you do for them and the program along with contact information including email and telephone number to naafa_pr@yahoo.com. A reporter will contact you for more detailed information.

We'd also like to hear from you for this same article if you have filed a lawsuit against your employer because of their weight/wellness policies and programs.

Thank you for your help with this project. We need all your support in telling the world about the discrimination people of size face on a daily basis.

Looking forward,
Peggy Howell

At my place of employment there is a wellness program, personally I don't understand what it's all about. When it was first introduced, they were offering either $50 or $100 (I forget) gift certificates. Many people answered the survey, and took their gift. Instinctively knowing that nothing comes free, I didn't participate. Later to learn from our union that participating in a wellness program gives your employer access to your personal health information. (employer denies this, but why are they interested?). Ironic, given that I work in healthcare where patient confidentiality is rule one.
